COSCO SHIPPING LINES (NETHERLANDS) B.V. is the local office of COSCO SHIPPING Lines, Shanghai in the Netherlands. COSCO Shipping Lines is a container shipping company with increasing capacity and belongs to the world top 5 global carriers.

Through dozens of trade lanes, over 100 of ports worldwide are connected. Several weekly services from Rotterdam to e.g. Far East and the U.S.A. are handled at our local office. We arrange Cosco SHIPPING Line’s sales and marketing activities and arrange full service concerning all (container) vessels to the Netherlands.

For our Inward department, we are looking for a fulltime (1,0 FTE)

Operator Inward (M/F)

The operator provides administrative support for all activities regarding pre-arrival of shipments, related to the Rotterdam full discharged containers.
Is responsible for all import matters and intermediate between Principal (Cosco), Customs, stevedores and customers.
The Operator Inward works independently and before & after arrival of the vessel, he/she handles operational and administrative tasks of all shipments related to the Rotterdam full discharged containers.
He/she works (closely) together with the other colleagues from the department regarding daily activities within the function.


Activities / Goals:

  • Processing all activities regarding all Rotterdam discharged containers prior vessels arrival
  • Sending General Declaration for each vessel to Customs via Port Community System (Portbase)
  • Preparing and sending Arrival Notice to all notify parties
  • Preparing release order for each B/L on each vessel in company system for further releasing. Adding empty depot in system
  • Inform concerned parties with vessel and discharge details. Amending when necessary
  • Close contact with outward dept., t/s dept. and container control
  • Provide Customs our General Declaration in fixed time slot with correct details
  • Provide at Customer details in Portbase
  • Responsible to prepare and provide correct details to Customs/Stevedore/ Inward colleagues and other departments
  • Receiving and processing of customer instructions and B/L's and collecting charges for release of cargo
  • Providing cargo information towards customers about inbound stream, and sells other activities when applicable. (trucking / customs / special cargo discharge)
  • Invoicing in respect of release of the cargo and releasing cargo on terminal
  • Daily contact with COSCON load ports, European agents, terminals and Customs
  • Checking rates and contracts and processing disputes
  • Responsible for at least 1 inbound vessel trade service on all inbound related cargo
  • Acts as an intermediate between COSCON, customer, freight forwarder, stevedore and Customs
  • Checking B/L and payment for releasement to rightful owner
  • Keeping close track on schedules and informs customers accordingly
  • Represent COSCONs’ interest in all kind off communication with customs, customers, stevedore.


Experience, education and competencies

  • HAVO/MBO thinking and working level
  • Cargadoor I certificate
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken
  • Able to work with various computer software systems
  • Independent and efficient working skills
  • Knowledge of the kind of customers and their agreements with COSCON
  • Customer and service oriented attitude
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Flexible and reasonable power to change priority when necessary
  • Accurate
